month 6

March 28, 2005 · Written By Marchesa Ababa  · View Comments

well, here i am on my 6th month and with only 3 more months to go, maybe even earlier.

it’s getting harder to move and esp. get up because the weight of the baby affects my back and my legs, so i’ve gotten just a bit slower.

perze and i have been narrowing down our choices for the crib and carrier which is the essential 2, and i’m beggining to pack for my hospital stay, as well as prepare some clothes for her first few days outside of my womb.

everyone’s preparing for her arrival and my family have been the most exited for me, and i’m the most exited for them because it’s both of our family’s first apo. my brother even over-generously bought us a the octura 40 digicamcorder because he knew perze and i were looking for one to record her firsts. it was a humbling present, esp. since i don’t like getting very expensive presents.

my body is going through certain paradoxes, like craving for sweets although after eating them, regret usually follows, so i balance it with my craving for fruit like strawberries, avocado’s, nectarines, and mangos. also, my tummy feels as if it stretches everyday, so it’s good to have cocoa butter lotion to help its elasticity.

in other important matters, perze and i have our upcoming interview for immigration and last night, praise God, we were able to sift through ALL the acquired papers necessary to complete the checklist given to us. At first, some documents were missing, but after tons of searching (and shredding) i managed to find them. Thank You Lord! After this step is done, we can worry about the next step to moving. I look back in the past 2 years alone, and can’t imagine just how many obstacles have been faced, and how many changes have impacted my life, but there was strength, love, and support through it all from several angles.

it has given me more perspective in how i see my family, my parents and my siblings, and perze. These past years have brought us closer than ever, and i can truly honestly say how much i love them not just as family, but as friends who i always look forward to spending time with. They are my pillars, and God has really blessed me with a family that really helps me grow and become a better person.

Bebe Sounds for Heartbeat

March 23, 2005 · Written By Marchesa Ababa  · View Comments

Perze and i bought this product called Bebe Sounds which enable us to hear our baby’s heartbeat, record it to our laptop, speak to her through a microphone, and let her listen to classical music as well as anyother type of music.

So far, we’ve been able to accomplish all of those things, even record her heartbeat. It takes a little patience to find her fast heartbeat, but we’ve found it effective to record it at night when she’s the most fiesty (which is around 12 in the morning, without fail). So when she’s getting married, we can remind her how small she used to be, and how close her heartbeat use to be to mine.

also, when perze uses the Bebe Sounds Mic to talk to her, she ends up kicking the spot where the sound is coming from. She’s very responsive, and still a great kicker.

My Baby This Week 031405

March 14, 2005 · Written By Marchesa Ababa  · View Comments
Your Body This Week
The top of your uterus now reaches about 2 inches above your bellybutton.
You may be feeling Braxton Hicks contractions. These “practice” contractions pump blood to the uterus and prepare the body for labor.
You may continue to feel mood swings, fatigue and heartburn. You may sweat frequently as your body temperature is high during pregnancy.
You may have extra weight on your upper arms, shoulders and on your face due to water retention. Your weight gain may be causing bladder problems, sore feet and fatigue. To combat the fatigue and sore feet, wear comfortable shoes, put your feet up whenever you can and rest whenever possible.

I have still yet to experience the Braxton Hicks, but i think it’s amazing how your body can prepare you for the actual symptoms of labor, so that you won’t mistake the sensation when you’re already at stage one of the labor process.
Mood swings: perze has been telling me stories of his friends’ wives who have asked him if i’ve been recently moody or mean to him because they’ve been known to be unmerciful during their pregnancies, but perze honestly thanked me for being patient and giving.  To be honest, God’s really molding me during my pregnancy, and He’s teaching me more of who i am and my flaws that i need to work on.  It’s humbling, but at least it controls the expected mood swings.  It really helps doing my devotions and having quiet time.
Weight check:  yep, i did finally gain weight.  Starting weight was 108 and now i’m up to 121.  I’ve gained 13 lbs. so far from the recommended 25 lbs.  I’m allowed to gain 12 more pounds which is good cuz i have 3.5 more months to go.   Despite my weight gain, a bunch of people recommended that i stay pregnant always because it looks great on me.  I think it’s hilarious cuz i really need a haircut and everything seems a bit plump-er.  But people say it must be a girl since my appearance seems to have developed prettier and i’ve managed to keep my fashion sense (thanx yb), which is always nice to hear since being pregnant doesn’t always give you the winning trophy to feel like miss america, esp. when you know that belly button doesn’t seem to be able to stretch any bigger…
but what i love most:  is that baby’s kicks and movements are so apparent so much that i can see them from the outside, so much that perze can feel in a moment’s kiss, and so much that silly genesis can wait a while and feel her ninja kick her in church.  baby really reminds me how i need to constantly think of her, and it’s a great feeling.

The Classic IQ Test

Congratulations, Perze!
Your IQ score is 135

plato.gif
This number is based on a scientific formula that compares how many questions you answered correctly on the Classic IQ Test relative to others.

Your Intellectual Type is Visionary Philosopher. This means you are highly intelligent and have a powerful mix of skills and insight that can be applied in a variety of different ways. Like Plato, your exceptional math and verbal skills make you very adept at explaining things to others — and at anticipating and predicting patterns. And that’s just some of what we know about you from your IQ results.

Heh. I dont really know how I stack up but i guess i’m a visionary that needs glasses. Hmmm. I wonder if this number is enough for me to take over the world. Or I can be pinky … either way i don’t care. :-)

i love Anchee Min novels. this is her 5th book i believe, and i have to admit i’m not as impressed as i was from her last novels. There’s no climax in the novel, and sometimes i think she cheats her omniscient voice. but it’s an okey read.

The Cherry Orchard by Chekhov

March 8, 2005 · Written By Marchesa Ababa  · View Comments

i gave this play a 3.

there wasn’t much to this play. Chekhov usually writes play of indirect action- meaning that the society has action, society is dynamic, but the characters involved are static, and do not take action.

This play is a great example of indirect action mainly because the setting takes place in Russia, when the society is changing and economy is beginning to struggle. The play is about an affluent family who refuses to adapt to these changes and ultimately have to abandon their beloved cherry orchard (an orchard that dates back to even the times when generations prior to them were still servants to the owners. Lopahin, a shrewd business man suggests to madame ravenskaya to sell the property to erect summer homes for rent, but she and her family complain over its sentimentally and therefore loses the property.

This is a critique made by Chekhov, that people must change for the better, for themselves and society, and for one to foster change, he/she must change themselves. He wanted his plays to affect his audiences to administer change and not follow the examples of his characters in his plays.

If you want a lot of action, i wouldn’t suggest this play because you’ll die in all the dialogue, but if you want to read an old Russian classic, this one is a good start.
