(L: I couldn’t find a picture of the couple, so I’m just posting one of us)
(R: update: ok. i finally met up w/ them and took a decent picture! hahah)

A huge CONGRATS to Chermaine and Jay for their recent engagement last month!

There are certain people in your life who you meet that you just always want the best for, because they’re one of the best people who light up the room.  That’s Cherms.  We met @ Rutgers, during a Tinikling practice.  We were both chosen, out of a number of girls, and I just remember helping her out w/ some of the steps.  Then we met again @ FIC (Filipinos In Christ) where I was blown away by her vocal prowess.  We ended up in the same praise and worship band, where I sang harmony to her melody.  We recorded a CD together in a band, sang in a wedding together, and sang some concerts in college.

Even now, I’m just so amazed by her- and now she’s marrying her college sweetheart.  Just last weekend, she was a featured chosen singer to sing at a contest @ Pinoy Musik Concert where she placed first!

Congrats Cherms and Jay. So excited for the two of you.
If you guys are reading this, make sure you email me an engagement shot of you guys!

Rain In Spain Jacquard Dress

May 20th, 2008 | Marchesa Ababa | No Comments

chartreusedressI love the yellows this season, esp. mustard.

Looking in my closet, there’s a dearth of yellow hues.  When I found this Rain in Spain dress by WCAGA on the racks, I absolutely loved it!  It was more of a chartreuse yellow.

My little sister was graduating at the time, so I decided to treat her with this dress as a gift, along w/ matching boy short panties.

antyellowmoddress When she opened her gift and saw the jacquard dress, she loved it, mainly because it’s her favorite color to date. And, of course, because the silhouette was mod-ish, with a slight modern twist in the back, pleated and buttoned back for subtle statement making.

"Let’s Go Fly a Kite"

May 19th, 2008 | Marchesa Ababa | 1 Comment

P1010334 we bought her first kite @ TARGET for $3.

She’s been wanting a kite since the beginning of spring, so when I found this ultra cute child’s kite for $3, I quickly bought it and surprised her with it.  With jubilant excitement, she was able to fly her first kite, lovingly handled by her Tatay who flew it w/ ease.  I’m not too good w/ kites, and even my memory fails to remember the last time I flew a kite.

But today, after working, Perze took Em out, despite allergies.  They hit the park and took Mary Poppin’s advice and indeed go out and “fly a kite.”  Their second outing on the same day, I decided to tag along to be their personal photographer.

For more pictures on their kite adventure, please visit our photo gallery for the complete album.

summer wishes

May 19th, 2008 | Marchesa Ababa | No Comments

I’m a sucker for flowers…no lie- not really “floral” patterns, but applique and embellishments.  So I’ve definitely been crushing on these two summer items:

asandalsflowerFirst. The sandals.  I’m a big wedge fan for the summer but when I saw these, I couldn’t stop thinking about them.  These were worthy enough to put in my favorites list.  Ivory thong sandals w/ huge flower embellishments?  They definitely scream me.  They also scream $328 so I doubt you’ll see me wearing them any time soon.AquagardenMaillot

Then there’s the flower maillot.  When I first saw this onepiece, I instantly crushed on its summer subtle hues, distracting yet ever flattering ruching, and yes- the flowers!  I’m really a fan of the one piece- esp. very vintage cuts, but I love this for its unique look.  Its uniqueness also costs you around $298, so you won’t see me being too unique for now… hahah… but they’re pretty merciful in their sales, so it’s not completely an impossibility.

*sigh…flowers…they really are a girl’s weakness. esp. this girl’s weakness… I truly am a sucker for flowers.

Khaki Tulip Skirt

antulipskirt atulipskirt01 I frequented my favorite store and caught the skirt I returned because the 4 was too big for me (and because I felt guilty spending $70 on a skirt).

Well, just a few months later, it hit the sale rack for $19.  Jaw dropping sale made me flip through the rack quickly to find and grab the size 2.  I tried it on in the fitting room and was so relieved to know that it fit me perfectly!

Pinoy Musik Festival

May 18th, 2008 | Marchesa Ababa | No Comments

Shamefully enough, I’m not very up to date on the Filipino music scene.  I admit the horror I feel when sometimes I watch Filipino game shows like WowWowWee, because I honestly feel there’s such a resonance of many cultural ideals that don’t sit well with me.  Don’t get me wrong, the show is funny, but even my sisters agree w/ me on the superficial archetypes that I wish they could just get over to make their shows more real.

Filipinos are incredibly talented, funny, personable, but there are just some media aspects that I would change.  But that’s just me…

Pinoy-08-Homepage-CRX_07 With that said,  yesterday, I was excited to meet up w/ some friends when I heard about Pinoy Musik Festival, a concert featuring many Filipino music artists, including MYMP, a personal favorite sound of mine (thanks Lei for the holler). Other performers included Sam Milby, Kris Lawrence, Divo Bayer, and even the comical duo- Porkchop, all of whom I am CLUELESS about (sadly enough).

But as a viewer, I do admit that my favorite was still MYMP, because of their simple acoustic sound, and her melodic voice.  The others sang well enough, but I’ve heard people sing like them before, and the same songs.  I was waiting for original songs and sound, but everything was a cover, except for very few songs. Again, they were good singers, but along w/ my present company, we were ready to leave after hearing MYMP.

Dinner covered the rest of the late night, with the generous friend Michelle introduced us to- Kevin.  So if Kevin is reading this, a gracious thanks is in udder (pardon the pun, I don’t mean to be punny).  However, despite the delicious dinner, Perze woke up with some abdominal pain, probably due to severe indigestion, thus canceling our trip to SJ….yikes!  But aside from that, we had a fun night…and yummy- thanks to mama sita, halo halo, and red lobster.

note: today, my friend Chermaine will be singing there for a competition, so good luck cherms!  Thanks for the invite.  Wish I could be there!

First Panties

May 16th, 2008 | Marchesa Ababa | 7 Comments

so ninang chelle and i accompanied emma to her first panty shopping trip.

YES! I said it-   P A N T I E S.

We went to Gymboree to choose Emma’s first panties since she’s now toilet trained.  She uses the toilet in the morning and at night, she still uses her diaper.  So in the mornings, we want her to get used to wearing panties.  How comfortable!  Every female knows that panties are one of those simple pleasures- adding to your individual style- whether boy shorts or thongs. hahaha

So Ninang chose one, Mama chose one, and Em chose one:

pstripespflamingopfishes

Gymboree amply provides panties for 2T/3T which is very convenient because I went to TARGET to look for some and didn’t find any.  Their designs are so cute too, making even boy shorts panties, like the middle one.

So today is the FIRST day Emma is wearing her panties.  Can you guess which ones?
