so you’ll grow, grow, grow
Here’s Emma’s Spring/Easter project.
We bought it from TARGET at the dollar section. I love that they have stuff like this for kids, encouraging them to be productive and earth conscious.
And knowing Emma, she has a green thumb which she’s genetically inherited from all her grandparents. Did you know that, anak? Your lola Ruth and lola Nene both plant flowers and gardens. Your lolo Bio and lolo Perl both plant vegetables.
Let’s see how this project pans out…I hope it does though so she’ll be encouraged to plant more.
in her heart
Last night, we had prayer time and Em willingly prayed for her Lola Nene, Tito Fred, Tita Kris, Hong Hong, while I prayed for everyone else in both sides of the family, our family, and church. I love how her prayers are expanding to open up to what is her in heart to pray for. I can’t wait for the day she realizes that prayer isn’t just something to do when you need something, but it is a sweet way to know her Savior.
After the prayer time, she asked me if I can show her pictures of her Lola Nene and Lolo Perl in the Philippines. I joyfully complied, thankful that despite the enormous distance and 3 year absence, she still remembers them with affection. She has such a big heart.

My daughter Emmanuelle has already started showing her Marchesa-isms. After she has refined her fine motor skills, she’s really found a love for crafts. Every piece of item she sees, she tries to find some sort of creative function for it, having it become a piece of something greater.
There’s so much symbolism in that, isn’t there? There are people in the kingdom who sees something to become a part of something bigger. And it can come in the form of a simple ministry, or seeing some grand potential in someone who gets left in the wayside without an obvious gift. There are people who entertain visions, no matter how difficult the journey and discouraging the criticisms.
I hope she becomes a builder. I hope she has a keen eye to spot potential. I hope she has the wisdom to realize that she herself is a work in progress and all those little things she puts into herself are also for the kingdom, esp. her talents, her knowledge, intellect, wisdom, and yes- her love and generosity.
I was thinking about it today while on my sporadic visits to the craft store. I can spend so much time there, not because I really want to, but because it takes a while to scan through sooooooooooo many pieces and actually theoretically put them together in my head to make one composite creation, stamped with character in my name, not just for the sake of making something, but something that has myself written all over it. A craft store is amazing, really, and you just sort of have to stop sometimes and look around, see the people who have a similar imprint of the Father, who love to create. Sometimes, I have to smirk and feel some kindred relationship to those carrying baskets of little unrelated things to form some wonderful relationship.
While looking around, I saw the strong possibility of future dates with my budding daughter, who also will one day walk those aisles with me, sharing the same imprint of the Father, and love to create.
em & math at 4
An article I subscribe to for parents:
Your 4-year-old now
The average 4-year-old can count up to ten, although he may not get the numbers in the right order every time. One big hang-up in going higher? Those pesky numbers like 11 and 20. The irregularity of their names doesn’t make much sense to a preschooler.
Don’t get caught up in trying to persuade your child to count much beyond ten or 20 right now. Most fours can’t fully comprehend how larger numbers correspond to actual quantity. They usually count between four and ten objects correctly. A child this age who rattles off numbers in sequence higher than 20 is generally doing so from sheer memorization.
Really? After all this time I’ve been trying to get Em to master her numbers from 1-100. She gets the order right 1-20. Granted, she sometimes gets confused with reading numbers 11-20, but she knows the function of counting when she has objects requiring to know its quantity.
But why not ‘get caught up’ in persuading your toddler to count beyond ten? I’ve seen toddlers learn how to add. There’s really nothing wrong with pushing their memorization skills. I believe in giving my children a little challenge.
Featuring Miss ZhiZhi
Yesterday, zem got a new pet @ Target. I told her she didn’t even play with mr.zhuzhu anymore and she said it was because he needed a new friend. She sacrificed her marshmallows, so I bought her the white one. She spent last night playing with her pet hamsters, with her newest addition, Miss ZhiZhi.
Miss ZhiZhi likes pushing Mr.ZhuZhu around, a trait I find Mr.ZhuZhu needs to dismiss if he ever wants to marry Miss ZhiZhi. Maybe for Valentine’s day, we can get Mr.ZhuZhu some well needed pants, because so far, we know who’s wearing them. You can usually tell in couples, who’s wearing them.
A Barnes and Nobles Daydate w/ Emma
Today, I had a date with my beloved Emma. I gave her the choice to either:
- To see a movie, The Princess & the Frog
- Go to Barnes and Nobles and read books
- Go to Target and shop around
She chose…BARNES & NOBLES! YaY!! I was hoping she would so I can look at books and drink some coffee while getting some learn on. she really loves barnes and nobles because she gets to pick out which books to read. she chooses two and I choose one. Today, she chose the 10 lady bugs and alvin and the chipmucks.
I chose the Children’s Atlas! lols…hahahahahaha…i know…but at least she can pin point where America, Philippines, Singapore, NJ, Texas, California, and Virginia are. Plus, she also knows where President Obama lives.
She also learned that there are sensors in our eyes and ears that receive information to bring to her brain, and that’s what makes her think. That, and Brittany is the lead singer in the Chipettes!
While walking around, I also got to teach her who Audrey Hepburn and Elvis Presley were, although she probably already forgot about Elvis. She initially thought I said Audrey Pepper, so we played a little game which now helps her to remember who she is. How do I not teach my daughter who my favorite actress is, and fashion icon?!
I also have some new stuff to add to my wishlist:
- Eats, Shoots, & Leaves (since I’m a grammar nut…or try to be)
- Quotes Umbrella
- Invisible Floating Bookshelf
- The Reason for God
Nonetheless, thanks Em for a great day! Hope you liked the sugar cookie.
in response to educational creativity
I really look at emma and her personality in response to many different areas of her education. I hope we can have the right discernment to encourage her in the way she’s meant to grow and not just to structure her “from the waist up, concentrating on her head and tilting it to one side.”
i want to love her for what she loves.
